Blog Week 8: What I Have Learned

One hope that you have when you think about working with children and families who come from diverse backgrounds (any format and any length)
I hope, and it is my conviction that I will do all that I can do in order to ensure that all children and families within my care and classroom feel as though they are respected, seen and valued. I want to ensure that I create partnerships with families so that together we can meet the needs of every child.

One goal you would like to set for the early childhood field related to issues of diversity, equity, and social justice (any format and any length)
As a result of the learning I have gained from the past eight weeks of this course and through my learning within this program in its entirety, I understand and appreciate the need to teach diversity and anti-biased education in a more profound way than ever before. A goal that I have and maintain is the desire to develop a deeper awareness of issues that involve diversity. As I mentioned in my discussion post this week, a goal that I have for myself is to remain current and knowledgeable through professional development and my own study. In my first diversity course, I reflected and realized that to me, culture was based solely on a person’s race. I have discovered and now have a deeper understanding that diversity encompasses much more.
A brief note of thanks to your colleagues
I want to thank you all for a great eight weeks of learning and professional growth. I wish you all much success in all of your future endeavors, and hope that our paths cross again. Thanks!

Hi Rhiannon,
I love all of the pictures that you chose for you blog. They are all beautiful and I love the quote "We are all alike. We are all different." As we have learned these past 8 weeks, that is so true and a great way to approach diversity. I think that staying current on different issues and professional development is so important. Just as the dynamic of our country is constantly changing, so is our field. I wanted to thank you for all of your insight and feedback during this course. I always loved reading your posts on the discussion board. You are so well spoken and I can tell how passionate you are about this field. I know that you will do great things. The GREAT news is that we have 2 classes left! I hope to see you in these next two! Have a wonderful break!

Hello Rhiannon,
As always, I enjoyed reading your blog and all the information you shared with us. You are absolutely right, we need to continue learning and keep our mind to new information; sometimes we get use to certain kind of information and when new ones come we get a hard time to accept them. Thank you for all the information and hope to see you around. Enjoy your holidays!

Hi Rhiannon,

Great Post! I believe as early childhood professionals we are the ones that can set a strong positive learning foundation for young children in order to continue asking other adults questions as they continue their educational, and personal journey in life when learning about themselves, and others and how important it is to welcome diversity. Moreover in helping young children at an early age accept diversity, I feel then they will have the knowledge of knowing when they themselves or a friend are being disrespect or treated unfairly.

Best wishes to you and great success!
